Being famous got a lot easier when YouTube hit the scene with its famous “broadcast yourself” tagline. That was in 2005. Now, according to YouTube (and it’s hard to argue this), the site is the most popular online video community in the world. It’s the place to find, watch and share original videos. It’s really a distribution platform, and there’s a lot of exposure to be had on YouTube.
Vimeo calls itself a respectful community of people who want to share the videos they make. Vimeo operates on the basis of freemiums: basic is free, but with a paid subscription called Vimeo Plus, features like HD, a “super-customizable” video player and an ad-free space to work and view. Now about that respectful community bit. Vimeo insists that comments be limited to constructive commentary and the content be non-commercial work members created.
